My Dog Wants a Divorce

The tension in the Ling Home is palpable.  Daisy stands outside in her SPACE COLLAR, refusing to look at me nor enter the house.  She's done.

Let me back track...

Last week I put ADVANTAGE II on her for the first time.  I was putting Advantage 1 on her but the vet sugguested I use the tick and lice version since LICE is never far from ME(since I am a kindergarten teacher).  The liquid must have aggravated the two spots where it was applied and two hot spots were created.  I tried to treat them holistically(since dog owners around here are VERY GREEN and only feed their dogs yams and potatoes...).  You don't want to be JUDGED as a bad, bad doggy owner around here and excluded from the parks as if you had the plague. If ANYONE had found out I HADN"T tried black tea bags and cucumber paste,  I'd really be humiliated.

ANYHOO...Daisy started to itch and itch, wearing herself and her hair patches out.  I invested in a SPACE COLLAR, well,  that's what "I" call them, obviously PET CO has other ideas...and she seemed okay.  Until yesterday...so,  $$$$215.00 later, we came home and started the "routine" of applying the five ear washes, ointments, sprays and creams.

Daisy wants NO part of it.

She wants a divorce.

Why is dog-loving so complicated?

I thought that having our kids moving on in life would make our life less complicated, which isn't really true.  Every transition in the lives of your kids AND your dog,  bring their own changes and hence, adjustments.

Life IS all about change and adjusting.  NEVER EVER think you're "got it down."

Even with you dog....

I may need to take her to counseling today,  I really want us to work this out....

  2. You are so funny! Poor Daisy. There is nothing like a dog wearing the cone of shame to bring out the pity in humans (ok, and also a little laughter - they look so funny!). Hope she's feeling better soon.

  3. Yes! The life of dogs is so unbearable! (for us...)

  4. Poor Daisy. Like children, She will one day realize that you were doing it inherent best interest!

  5. Hmmm does mixing in Scooby Snacks help?

At least you don't have to wear the space collar?

Trying to find the silver lining....

  7. Ahh. Poor Daisy. She does look pretty unhappy. Give her a big steak or something.

  8. Now Daisy, let's be reasonable. Your Mommy was only... SQUIRREL!!! ...trying to protect you :-)

Hope she forgives you soon. Even when mad, she's so cute when she won't look at you!

  9. I'm confused. At uni we were taught that lice were species-specific. Human head lice can't infest dogs and vice-versa. Have the lice changed since I was taught (way back when we dinosaurs were part of the curriculum) or has your vet just up-sold you? We need Johann to weigh in on this. (being an ex-vet as well)

  10. Trust me..the "why me" looks will go away eventually. My furry kids have been there too. Picture a Rott trying to drink out of the toilet wearing one...LOL! They hate the cone of shame.

  11. Ah poor Daisy and her Mama. I'm sure in the end she knows you are only doing what's best for her. Dogs give us unconditional love and when they don't want anything to do with you it's hard. I'm sure she will reconsider the divorce as she knows how much she loves you.

Show the clothes! Who cares if I'm the only one who likes it :) I know for one Shelley will too, that makes 2 of us.

  16. Poor Daisy! This, too, shall soon pass. She will be itchless before long and all will be forgiven. It reminds me when we had our little schnauzer neutered years ago - he was about 3 yrs old (don't ask me why we waited so long) - he had to wear one of those coneheads for a few days. When we brought him home after his surgery, he went and sat facing a corner - he was humiliated - we had stripped him of his manhood! LOL! He got over it soon enough and loved us once more. :-)

  17. You know what made me laugh so hard at this post besides that picture of a pitiful looking pooch? That your description of your neighbors is so accurate!

  18. Meg, I'm trying to catch up with you- I'm so far behind! I'm so glad you figured out that Imodium is a gift from the gods on race day. I've used it before and it has never let me down. I empathize with your dog problem as I am having issues with my cat. He has decided he likes the tile in front of the litter box better than the litter box. I think he is mad at me! Good luck to Daisy with the cone of shame!

  19. My yellow lab's name was Daisy too! And it suited her well. I'm still heartbroken over her passing on, and can't even think about owning another dog. They really are like having more kids...I hope your little Daisy feels better soon.

  20. Let me know what works. I'm taking our (adopted) cat in this week. Four litters of kittens from a feral cat is quite enough thank you.....

  26. Ha! What an awesome post for me to read as the first one I checked out on your site. Poor pup. But, one question, if you two divorce, who gets the real house and who gets the dog house?
