RECOVERY...

Lots and lots of recovery going on around here.  First off, from ORANGE DAY.  My last post explains the whole fiasco.  Moving on to purple tomorrow, I'm sure I'll be able to keep it off the floor, the faces and the clothing...NOT!
One of you requested a photograph of the whole ordeal.  Uh, no.  Can you imagine the parents watching me cackle as I took a picture of the poor innocents with paint dripping off their noses?  They'd have me shipped off to one of those "teacher" places where old teachers give themselves paint facials and sniff Elmer's.  I know.  I've seen it.  Anyhoo, I did get this picture for you on Friday. See?  Still caked into the rug.  Sorry Emmanuel.  This is YOUR spot.  Sit here.  Right on the orange paint your teacher threw at you.

This week, after the abc's, the 123's, the please and thank you's,  we'll be decorating this refrigerator box which literally touches the ceiling in my classroom.

We DO refrigerators BIG here in California.  Vaulted ceilings, remember?  All the NEW houses have them, even mine.  However, I have a normal refrigerator...I'm only teacher but hey, I AM GRATEFUL for my job!!! That's what our principal says we should tell ourselves every morning and I DO!  I know I sound sarcastic right now but I AM thankful for my job.  Anyhoo...I have a vague idea of how we'll "use" this box in my classroom. ONe parent suggested I put the bad kids in the box.  NO WAY, I don't have any bad kids this year.  All angels.  Next idea?   Any creative ideas on your part?  I'm going to plan with the kids tomorrow and I'll keep you posted.  Any random ideas are welcome!

Now that I've tricked you into thinking I'm a balanced woman,  I'll hit you with the real reason I write this BLOG...running!
Yes, still an obsession interest of mine.
Besides my job, which by the way,  did I tell you I'm grateful for?
I am.

My third race in a row was yesterday, our fourth in a series for the Dirt Dog Cross County series.  It was a 10k, the longest in the series.  I was not planning on racing it all out as I am still recovering from the last three races...that's what you do when you're 46 and racing every weekend.   You recover.  That means that I am taking more days off, doing less mileage than I should and doing a speed workout with hills and a little tempo run once a week.  I wish I could do more but I truly feel like the racing week after week is enough.  We'll be going into late October with this kind of schedule so I'm conserving energy and muscle fibers as we speak.
I won a pair of these awesome recovery socks yesterday, the orange ones!  They are so tight and really felt great on my feet, ankles and calves.  I think I'm going to buy the calf sleeves!
I used to be a ZOOT girl, I still love their stuff, however, these CEP compression socks are even better!

Interestingly,  I'm going to start training for my January marathon in October...we'll see how that cuts into the recovery schedule AND the November Cross Country Championships in November.
It's all about recovery.

Finally, here's the recent video of my SUPER SANDY POCKETS playing football...
If you are still reading this,  you have a minute to see the cutest boy in the WORLD.
Humor me!!!

Have a great week!

  2. I feel like I haven't read your blog in ages, so it's good to catch up! Lots 'o possibilities with that big box! I'm sure you'll come up with some great stuff.

Wow--all those races in a row is awesome. I find I have a mentally tough time getting myself excited for races that close together. So glad your mind and your body are holding up to them. And cross-country nats sounds too fun!

  3. Can't wait to hear what you do with the box. I had a beer can in my garbage at school Friday. I made sure the custodian knew we brought it back from the woods as it was litter! Not mine!

  8. Oh my! He is so smart and adorable!! And his gross motor skills are off the charts!!! Sheesh! Love hearing your sweet voice to Meg. :) I'm so jealous of your big box!! I've been on the lookout for one so that we can make another house. We had the coolest cardboard house that my husband made and it was sooo loved. We eventually made it a fairy house with white christmas lights inside and big paper leaves covering the roof and the outside decorated with flowers and tree bark looking stuff. It was so magical. Eventually fell apart after a good year of having it inside, used for a birthday party, taken outside, etc. So wonderful!
I'm running a 10k this weekend. Am not trained so we shall see how it goes. I'm just going to have fun with it and see where my legs take me.

    Have a great week Meg!

  9. I'll have to remember to send you pics of our cardboard house. You could have whatever you make be your little reading nook where kids can hide with a good book. Put some white lights in there and some book covers or photo copies of favorite book covers all around on the inside and have it just be a little rocket, spaceship, house, reading area. I wanna come hang out in your classroom!

  10. I think you are a rockstar running every race weekend and who cares if you have to recover between them. Remember there are women less younger than you that don't even leave their couch. I'm proud of you!

Sandy pockets is such a cutie.

  11. I loved the orange post because we just painted my son's bedroom orange. It is very bright but it makes him happy and that is all that matters. I have lots of orange spots on lots of different things. Recovery is good and I've been doing a lot myself last week. This week it is back to the roads and trails for some hard training. Keep it going Meg!

  13. I love your little guy. Can I have him? At least for a day or two? :)

Now this is not what you will want to hear, but my cats would just love that big box. They are obsessed with cardboard boxes, big and small.

I will have to check into those recovery socks. My legs have been feeling a bit tired lately but maybe it is because of the cold I've been fighting.

  16. Your football player is SO CUTE! Love the adorable little voice. Thanks for the pics of the orange paint. Poor Emmanuel! I'm excited to hear that you like the recovery socks. I should give them a try. I just bought a pair of recovery tights and I love them after a really long run, but the socks would be great to wear on a more regular basis. Thanks for sharing!

  17. Of course you won orange socks ... orange is a big theme on your blog as of late! I mean the paint, the font colors on the side bars. Good for orange! It needs more action I think. I love it!

Speaking of action - that football looks soooo big in his arms. And what a great catch he has! Too cute!

  18. SSP is such a cutie, and so lucky to have an awesome grandma who plays Charger football with him.

I am so happy to hear about your continued cross country racing season and how well you are holding up, studly grandmas can do that - race a lot and recovery well. I've never worn compression anything before...do they make them for knees cuz my knee and hammie have been yelling at me. I think I'd need pink, of course! :)

Hope you find something truly fun to do with the box, though by now you've already done it...I bet the kids had a blast! I think I'll move out there and enroll as a kindie in your class, sounds better than life here (ha!)...I may be the one bad kid in your class, though!!

Miss ya!! Can't wait to see you in a few months :).
    xo

  20. OMG, that IS the cutest thing ever! He's a natural. Adorable. and now everyting you said previous to that is just boring :)

and please don't ever ask me to think of anything creative again. But I'll be curious to see what you come up with. I'm sure it'll be genius!

  21. And as always I am a week behind on blogging......

My grandpa repaired refrigerators as a side job and some of my fondest memories are of my fridge box playhouses. He used to bring me these HUGE boxes and cut doors and windows in them for me. Good times.

I love fall racing and cross country! You have fun out there. Jill told me you were racing Carlsbad. She almost has me convinced to do the half marathon....we'll see.
